Different audiences use different social media platforms at different times of the day. Knowing your target audience is so important, not only in planning what you post but also when and where you post.
Here are the audience stats you should know (thanks to the 2016 Sensis Social Media Report):
99% of 18-29 year olds are on Facebook, 58% use Instagram, and a huge 60% are on Snapchat
As for 30-39 year olds, 94% are Facebook users, 36% use Instagram and 20% are on Twitter
40-49 year olds love Facebook with 95% using this platform, 21% use Instagram, and only 10% use Twitter and Snapchat
91% of 50-64 year olds use Facebook.
Some of you might be thinking: “Hang on a second, I think I might have more than one target audience”. This is where knowing your social platform stats comes in handy.
As long as you have specific profiles for each of your audience types, you can use the above data to target them all, using different platforms!
Think of it this way – if one of your target audience profiles mainly uses Facebook, talk to them on that platform. If another audience type is very active on Instagram, target them there.
You can still send the same messages; just tweak the way you deliver them.
